1. Dove & Olive, Surry Hills
Grab a crispy chicken schnitty and nab a spot by the fire; this is the ultimate cosy venue for a night that will warm you up, inside and out. With an extensive beer selection and a delicious menu full of hearty goodness, Dove & Olive is right in the heart of Surry Hills. This one is definitely worth getting out of bed for.
2. The Lord Dudley Hotel, Woollahra
One of Sydney’s oldest pubs, the Lord Dudley is an Eastern suburbs institution. Curl up by one of the many fires with one of the pub’s famous pies, or try the classic bangers and mash. They even have a heart-warming Sunday roast on offer.
3. The Oaks, Neutral Bay
The best Sydney bars with fireplaces aren’t just in the city centre. If you’re north of the bridge (or even if you’re not), The Oaks in Neutral Bay is definitely worth a visit. Cosy up by the fireplace or visit the new sports bar, Taffy’s, which has weekly beer tasting sessions on a Thursday night. The extensive menu includes a range of delicious steaks, gourmet pizzas, and other winter favourites. Upstairs, you can challenge your friends to a game of pool, admire the recently refurbished, art-deco style furnishings, and try a drop from the extensive wine list.
4. The Duke of Clarence, Sydney CBD
Modelled after an 18th century British tavern, this has to be one of the best pubs in Sydney. The Duke of Clarence is tucked away right in the city centre. Best of all, it has, a menu that has been carefully curated to include all the classic English favourites; scotch eggs, high-quality share plates, and, of course, a range of burgers, pies, and steaks. They even have Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets, and the ole’ classic, bread-and-butter pudding. If that doesn’t tempt you from the safety of your blankets, we’re not sure what will!
5. The Cricketer’s Arms, Surry Hills
Ah, The Cricketer’s Arms. Another Sydney institution and one of our top Sydney bars with fireplaces, this one is cheap, cosy, and always a good time! It’s the perfect mid-week spot for watching a game and having a cider, or your preferred poison of choice!
6. The Newport, Newport
Although The Newport up in the northern beaches is typically the perfect Sydney summer spot to sink a few drinks, it’s also a lesser-known winter watering hole. With a number of outdoor fires to huddle around, you can cosy up with a drink, a snack, and your favourite mates – all while happily ignoring the winter chill. While you’re there, you can also stop by the upscale Bert’s Bar & Brasserie for dinner – it’s well worth a try!
7. The Old Fitzroy Hotel, Woolloomooloo
Finally, one of the oldest Sydney bars with fireplaces, the Old Fitzroy Hotel is still going strong. With the stellar combination of a brasserie, a theatre and plenty of fireplaces, this old Sydney pub is one that’s hard to beat.
